Travel expenses to attend a key Scripture Engegement conference in Africa

A key member of the MD&S team needs to attend an important Scripture Engagement conference in Kenya, Africa. Due to a budget shortfall, we would like to see these attendance fees be covered by donations.

When?

Conference: 25 February to 3 March 2027

Training Days: 4-5 March 2027

Arrival day: Wednesday 24 February 2027

Departure day: Saturday 6 March 2027

The conference will be over six days, Thursday to Saturday and Monday to Wednesday with a day off on Sunday. There will be two days of optional training at the end of the conference (Thursday and Friday).

Who?

The conference is for those working with Bible translation organisations in Africa whose role is to encourage the use of the Scriptures translated into local languages, for example Scripture Engagement promoters, facilitators, specialists and consultants, and those working in ethno arts, media and trauma healing. Resource partners with an interest in partnering to strengthen Scripture engagement work in Africa are also very welcome to take part.

This will be a bilingual conference in English and French, so participants will need to speak one of these two languages. Some presentations will be given in French (with an English translation), and some in English (with a French translation). Discussion groups will be organised by language.

What?

We will be focusing on some of the key issues in Scripture Engagement in Africa today:

● Transforming lives: Seeing God change people as they encounter the life- transforming power of his Word, thinking and living differently as they follow Jesus and face the challenges of today.

● Engaging the next generation: Encouraging children and young people to encounter, understand and engage with God’s Word.

● Navigating a multilingual world: Responding to the opportunities and challenges of language use in multilingual churches and communities.

● Keeping up to date in a changing world: Exploring innovations and trends, including Scripture Engagement in Oral Bible Translation contexts, the use of AI, and new approaches to measuring Scripture Engagement. Please be thinking of whether you could give a presentation related to one or more of the above themes.
